Warren House Inn; Soussons Forest; Post Bridge; Route Towards Grey Wethers; Fernworthy Forest. 15th May 2019.
Weather pattern good with a light SE wind; cool. This walk was planned, once again, to witness the majesty of the seasons Bluebells; whilst also hoping to hear the call of the Cuckoo. We were not to be disappointed on both counts, with the traditional call heard at least 3 times. Good to know that the world is very much the same, with these birds travelling annually, the tremendous distance from S.Africa.
The attached photo was taken en route by John A, and identified as, a Blue Bracket fungi. It is poisonous and can be deadly if ingested.
Lunch was taken just North of Post Bridge on the route to Grey Withers (large stone circle) and Sittaford Tor. At this point Mike K had a double take when an elderly lady passed us on her return trip from Grey Wethers and identified as a person (Rosemary), he had met on previous occasions, on his annual family trip to the Pen Y Gwryd hotel in Snowdonia. She runs a small beef farm near Penzance and was a long way from home, undertaking these well known Dartmoor walks; from her bucket list! Unusual!
Total Distance 10.7 miles. Summated Altitude 1700 ft……………Mike
