North Hallsands Start Point; Lannacombe; Prawle Point; E.Prawle, return via Inland route to Lannacombe, then direct route from Mattescombe to Start Point car park and retrace to Hallsands 19th June 2019.
Our complement of 6 members( plus one Springer Spaniel- Daisy), rendezvous at North Hallsands. The weather is drizzle and poor visibility. However the days Met forecast is for improvement with clear skies and some sunshine as the day progresses This is one of our regular walks, traversing some of the most spectacular and difficult coastline in the S.W. Morning coffee is taken on the rocky foreshore between Start Point and Lannacombe. Some 50 metres off shore we have the treat of watching some 20 or so Seals on the rocks and swimming; obviously fishing for their food. A truly magnificent sight. Coincidental with a slight deterioration in visibility, we hear the shrill fog horn warning signal emanating from the Lighthouse. The route through to Prawle Point is protected for the benefit of sheep and cows, by an electrified wire fence. Our 4 legged companion (Daisy), was remiss in transgressing through the wire fence and receiving an electric shock with startling panic results; such that a sharp sting would transmit. This reoccurred on a further two occasions, so lets hope the lesson has been learnt.
Along the low cliffs; it was interesting to see a group of young people under instruction for introductory shore-line climbing; including 'tomb stoning’. They appeared, well supervised and with the correct safety equipment.
Total Distance 12.7 miles. Summated ascent/descent 2733 ft. Roger and John took a slightly longer return route; extending their overall distance to approx 13 miles.
