5 Stepping Stone Crossings; Dartmeet; Brimpts Farm; Sherwell Farm; Bellever; Pizwell. 10.8 miles. 18th May 2016.
Wednesday 17th July 2019. A full complement of team walkers. Weather fine with some cloud, temp around 22º C. Ideal walking conditions. A decision was made to undertake this bi-annual walk in the reverse direction (anticlockwise), to take advantage of the long river section and tree shade later in the day. This of course entailed climbing to Yar Tor, straight from Dartmeet Car park, a height of 600 ft.
Total Distance 11.0 miles and summated elevation of 1772 ft. An interesting walk with no less than 6 river crossings, using stepping stones over the Walla Brook, and East and West Dart. Fairly easy with the reduced water flow in the rivers, but potentially dodgy in wet weather. Its also a product in mastering the art of balance when one gets older!
Just thought I’d mention the daily mandatory bodily inspection for Sheep Ticks. I have to report finding a small Tick, embedded close to the 'engine room’ high on my right leg. With a little difficulty I was able to cleanly remove the tiny creature with a pair of tweezers. All seems OK……….Mike
