W/W 18th September 2019. Shiphay; Cockington; Marldon; Uphempston; Knaves Ash; Bow Grange; Combe Fishacre; Bulleigh Barton; N.Whiborough; Moles Cross; Hr Compton Barton.
This walk designed by Brian and Bob; starts 'à chez Brian’ and takes a meandering route through parkland; farmland; public footpaths; Bridleways; mettled and un-mettled county roads. The day was an experience of perfect weather with clear ski’s offering incredible views over the surrounding countryside to Dartmoor. Points of interest : The professional racing stable at Knaves Ash Farm, where we can observe several magnificent thoroughbred race horses in the nearby fields. The 200 year old; rebuilt Windmill Tower at Style Park ( called Long Barrow, see picture). The building has been redesigned as a holiday residence and looks quite impressive with its observation windows in the tower; minus, of course the wind vanes; which many years ago, would have produced the power for grinding corn. Cost of hire; around £750 per week.
Total length of the route 12.4 miles, with a summated elevation of 1888 ft.
Five team members walked the distance. …………….Mike
