Wednesday Walk 2nd January 2019 Hound Tor, Heathercombe Bennett's Cross. Just Roger, Bob and myself started from Hound Tor on a perfect walking day. The moor had largely dried up from the December rainfalls. Jay's Grave as usual displayed flowers and coins. The route to Bennett's Cross was via Heathercombe, largely deforested, and King Tor. From Soussons we made our way back to our cars passing through Grimspound. So a ten mile walk.I had thought that everyone was back at work following the New Years break. So it was a surprise to see so many walkers, including young children. The car park was packed with people from the hunt who took advantage of the Hound of the Basket Meals van, although it did seem odd to watch adults licking lollies on a cold day.
The recently softened ground encouraged great activity among the mole population. I wondered how moles looked for partners. Roger quickly provided the answer, "On Blind Date"
Happy New Year,
Brian.

10th April 2019. Hound Tor; Natsworthy Gate; Lr Hookney; Moorgate; Lettaford; Jurston; Hurston; Chagford Common; Bennett's Cross; King Tor.
A very cold start to the day. Probably around 3º C with a fresh Easterly Wind. 5 Team Members.
This was an interesting walk with a mixture of Farmland and Open Moor and with the certain richness, of new born lambs, spring growth and associated blossom and of course, much bird song.
Its worth noting that our aborted route near to Shapley, could have been continued onto the 2 moors Way. This would have taken us a little further distance than the revised route via Hurston. (See map below)
Total Distance 13.1 miles. ascent/ Descent 1590 ft……….Mike
